Here Graham has filled a measuring bowl half full, added a dropper full of soap and is now beating it to make bubbles. For preschoolers a big part is learning the process. The steps involved, getting a tray from the shelf, following the steps, cleaning up (there is a sponge on the tray), and then returning the tray to the shelf.
Here Graham is tweezing feathers from one bowl to another.
There were a lot of steps in this one! Here Claire washed her hands, donned an apron, peeled a banana, sliced the banana, stabbed each slice with a toothpick, placed them all on a plate and served them to the other children. A great practice of hygiene, manners, fine motor, the list goes on.
You can read more about the Montessori Method at Wikipedia, I typed in Montessori and doubled checked my terminology since I have a Montessori Teacher reading my blog!

IS this at toddler group? Is it a montessori?? Looks like fun.
Hee Hee, that's me! Your terms were perfect:) I was laughing at your comment about how many steps are in the snack serving work. In the training course there are several activities that are broken down into 30+ steps for us to learn. That's not how it is taught to the children of course!
So is Graham starting school? I am thinking about getting Ben in somewhere soon.
It is toddler group, his stepping stone to preschool. Since we have been going, with Claire and Graham, for the last 3 years, we are all pretty comfortable there. We were waiting for others to arrive for toddler class and doing the practical life trays while we waited. Graham will officially start once he is potty trained. We are in no hurry, but he knows once he gives up the pull-ups he gets to go see Miss Melissa. It is certainly a different transition than with Claire. He has been 'going' there since he was born.
